Waffle Kisses

This'll be a quick post, as April madness is upon us. A quick post about a quick recipe.

These treats are the quintessential "good to make with kids" treat. Low stress, a ridiculously short ingredient list, not much oven time, and lots of hands on time. Recruit a friend or two to unwrap kisses and smush M&Ms into the tops and the time will fly.

These are also ideal because they are sweet, salty, and small. Three S's to success, right? If people want a bunch, they'll grab a handful; if they're just looking for a sweet bite, they can grab just one (and avoid ripping a cookie in half and leaving it on the tray); if they're trying to be modest, they'll only take one at a time (but end up eating a bunch--that's me!). Whatever your snack style, the small size increases this entertaining powerhouse.

Three ingredients, a couple of hours, and many satisfied friends. Keep a box around, if you can keep your paws out of the cookie jar!

Waffle Kiss Treats
Yield: about 250

Ingredients:
1 pound bag snaps (grid, waffle) pretzels
2 bags Hershey's Kisses--dark if you're into that
2 bags M&Ms

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees, and line a baking sheet with foil, parchement, or silpats. Pour out a bunch of pretzels and arrange into an even layer
  2. Unwrap a bunch of kisses and place on on top of each pretzel.
  3. Bake for 3 minutes, or until chocolate has melted (NOTE: if the top feels stiff, it probably just overcooked a bit. No worries, but know that putting it back in the oven to melt more won't solve the problem. Just bend it down underneath the M&M. No one will know!).
  4. Remove from oven and press an M&M into the top of each treat. Allow to set for several hours at room temperature or an hour or two in the fridge. They can be kept at room temperature once set.
  5. Snack away!
Recipe from tradition, my brain, and seeing it done before. These ain't rocket science.

P.S. I made up the name. I've never heard them called waffle kisses before, I just decided it sounded nice...call them what you like!
