Cookie Dough Balls

Half the fun of eating cookie dough out of the bowl is knowing you probably shouldn't. Double the fun is sticking a wad on a fork, covering it in chocolate, and calling it legit.

Check it out...

Happy Holidays! Yeah...it's a iron table. But that's where the light is best.

Let's call it a juxtaposition of the seasons.

This recipe comes from Joy the Baker. If you haven't seen her blog, check it out...she is wonderfully down-to-earth and her posts make me laugh. With the same amount of ingredients, her version of this recipe made half as many as mine. They were GINORMOUS.

I want to be like her when I grow up.

On to these dough balls. As if eating cookie dough off a plastic fork weren't luxurious enough, let's add some chocolate.

If you're the kind of person who has craft sticks around the house, use those, but forks were most handy chez moi.

There are no eggs in this! So there's really no reason to sneak bites of dough. Eat it by the forkfull in plain view.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls
makes 18 (or 9 if you're like Joy) large balls

1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter at room temperature
1 cup plus 2 Tablespoons all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda (for flavor)
3/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup Greek yogurt (or applesauce or peanut butter)
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
Semi sweet chocolate chips, melted for dipping as needed

In the bowl of a stand mixer fit with a paddle attachment (or with a large bowl and a wooden spoon) cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about three minutes in the machine. Beat in yogurt (or applesauce or peanut butter) along with the vanilla extract and stir to combine.

Whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Add all at once to the butter and sugar mixture and stir until incorporated. Fold in chocolate chips.

Scoop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto a waxed paper lined cookie sheet. Spear each dough ball with a plastic fork or popsicle stick. Place in the freezer overnight or until frozen, at least three hours.

When ready to dip the balls, melt chocolate chips in a double boiler or in the microwave. Start with about a cup, and add more as needed.   Remove balls from the freezer and dip into warm chocolate. Return to the lined cookie sheet and return to the freezer to harden. You may need to reheat the chocolate midway through dipping if it gets cold from the frozen dough. Serve cold from the freezer.

Common Scents: to a certain extent, if you make yourself busy with things you love, you will get the things you don't love so much (homework??) done in a much shorter time. Be efficient!
